Your Name

Storyline

Your Name is a breathtaking, emotionally resonant, and globally celebrated romantic fantasy animated blockbuster directed by Makoto Shinkai, weaving a dazzling tapestry of youth, destiny, and cosmic phenomenon that shattered international box office records. The narrative follows two high school adolescents living completely disconnected lives: Mitsuha Miyamizu, a teenage girl residing in the serene, traditional mountain town of Itomori, who longs to escape her family's Shinto shrine duties and move to the vibrant metropolis of Tokyo; and Taki Tachibana, an earnest, hardworking high school boy and aspiring architect living in the fast-paced urban center of Tokyo, balancing academics with a bustling Italian restaurant waitering job. Mysteriously, the two begin waking up intermittently in each other's bodies, navigating the comedic and chaotic challenges of each other's routines, friendships, and cultural surroundings while leaving messages on phones and notes on skin to maintain order. Over time, an unspoken, profound romantic intimacy blossoms between them, transcending physical separation. However, when the body-swapping abruptly ceases, Taki attempts to locate Mitsuha's rural town, only to uncover a devastating, temporal reality: Itomori was completely obliterated three years earlier by the fragmented impact of the Tiamat comet, killing Mitsuha and hundreds of villagers. Desperate to rewrite fate across fractured timelines, Taki must journey to the sacred shrine of musubi to reconnect with Mitsuha and orchestrate a frantic, high-stakes town evacuation before the comet strikes. Featuring gorgeous hyper-detailed skies, Radwimps' iconic rock soundtrack, and profound emotional stakes, Your Name is a modern masterpiece of fate and love.
