Uri: The Surgical Strike
"How's the Josh? High, Sir!"
Storyline
Directed by debutant Aditya Dhar, the 2019 military war action film Uri: The Surgical Strike emerged as one of the most profitable and culturally impactful patriotic blockbusters in Indian history, grossing over ₹350 crore on a modest budget and winning four National Film Awards, including Best Director and Best Actor for Vicky Kaushal. The film dramatizes the real-life retaliation conducted by the Indian Armed Forces following the September 2016 terrorist attack on an army base in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 19 soldiers. Vicky Kaushal delivers a career-defining, electrifying performance as Major Vihaan Singh Shergill, a grieving Para Special Forces officer who comes out of administrative leave to spearhead a covert, high-stakes surgical strike against four terrorist launchpads across the Line of Control in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Guided by National Security Advisor Govind Bhardwaj (Paresh Rawal) and intelligence officer Pallavi Sharma (Yami Gautam), Vihaan leads his commandos into enemy territory with zero casualties. Packed with Hollywood-grade tactical military realism, intense night-vision CQB combat, and the iconic, unifying catchphrase 'How's the Josh? High, Sir!', Uri is an undisputed military landmark.
