Singam

Cast of Singam (Film), Collection, Budget & Streaming Guide

"When he roars, crime trembles. The iconic police blockbuster that set the blueprint for Indian cop cinema."

Storyline & Synopsis

Singam is the roaring cop action blockbuster directed by Hari, featuring Suriya in his immortal avatar as the ferocious police officer Duraisingam, alongside Anushka Shetty and Prakash Raj.

Duraisingam (Suriya) is an honest, respected Sub-Inspector of Police serving peacefully in his coastal native village of Nallur. He resolves village disputes with compassion and falls in love with Kavya (Anushka Shetty). However, when Chennai-based ruthless extortionist and kidnapping kingpin Mayil Vaaganam (Prakash Raj) is mandated by court to sign daily conditional bail in Nallur, he insults Duraisingam's police honor. Mayil Vaaganam uses his political influence to transfer Singam to the bustling harbor city of Chennai to humiliate him. Instead of backing down, Duraisingam roars like a lion, mobilizing honest officers to demolish Mayil Vaaganam's mafia syndicate.

Singam: In-Depth Storyline, Characters & Themes

The Blueprint of Modern Indian Police Cinema

Singam revolutionized the police action genre in Indian cinema with its lightning-fast pacing, electrifying editing, and iconic dialogues. Suriya's thunderous delivery of the signature punchline "Ongi adicha 1.5 ton weight-u da, paakuriya?" (If I hit with full force, it's 1.5 tonnes of weight, want to see?) became a pop-culture sensation.

The film's massive success spawned an official Tamil franchise (Singam II and Si3) and was officially remade into Hindi by Rohit Shetty as the smash hit Singham starring Ajay Devgn, which launched the famous Bollywood Cop Universe.

Produced by Studio Green on a budget of ₹15 crore, Singam collected ₹100 crore worldwide, running for over 100 days across theaters in Tamil Nadu and overseas. Check out related adrenaline-filled films in our Action movies guide.
