Jailer

Storyline

Nelson Dilipkumar's 2023 action entertainer Jailer marked the triumphant, record-smashing box office renaissance of Indian cinema's supreme megastar Rajinikanth, grossing over ₹650 crore worldwide. Rajinikanth stars as 'Tiger' Muthuvel Pandian, a mild-mannered, bespectacled retired prison superintendent living a peaceful, domestic life tending to his family and making YouTube videos with his grandson. When his honest ACP son Arjun (Vasanth Ravi) is murdered by a ruthless antique idol smuggling syndicate led by the sadistic, cunning Varman (Vinayakan), the grieving father sets aside his gentle demeanor to seek retribution. Reawakening the legendary, ruthless prison warden who once held the most dangerous criminals in India under an iron fist, Muthuvel leverages his nationwide network of loyal former inmates and crime lords—featuring show-stopping, viral cameo appearances by Malayalam superstar Mohanlal (as Mathew), Kannada megastar Shiva Rajkumar (as Narasimha), and Jackie Shroff. Powered by Anirudh Ravichander's infectious, chart-busting musical score (featuring the global phenomenon 'Kaavaalaa'), Jailer stands as an electric, crowd-pleasing celebration of Thalaivar's timeless swag and mass heroism.
