Fighting with My Family

Storyline

Fighting with My Family is a delightfully spirited, authentic, and emotionally resonant biographical sports comedy-drama written and directed by Stephen Merchant, chronicling the extraordinary real-life journey of WWE superstar Paige. The heart-stirring story unfolds in the gray, working-class coastal town of Norwich, England, where the eccentric, wrestling-obsessed Knight family—headed by reformed criminal Ricky and his wife Julia—earn their living by hosting low-budget wrestling tournaments in neighborhood halls and training local youths. Their lives are illuminated by the shared, consuming dream of their teenage children, Saraya and Zak, who aspire to break free from generational poverty and secure a coveted contract with World Wrestling Entertainment in America. When the siblings unexpectedly earn a high-stakes audition at London’s O2 Arena, their bond is tested to its absolute limit: Saraya is selected to enter the grueling, cutthroat NXT developmental training camp in Florida, while a heartbroken Zak is rejected and spirals into bitter depression back home. Overwhelmed by grueling physical training, culture shock, and severe alienation among glamorous fitness models, Saraya—wrestling under the moniker 'Paige'—struggles with imposter syndrome and the crushing weight of her family’s expectations. However, guided by the blunt, hard-earned wisdom of veteran trainer Hutch Morgan and inspiring backstage mentorship from Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Paige learns to embrace her offbeat, goth individuality rather than conforming to conventional mold. Grounded by a magnetic, career-making performance from Florence Pugh, Fighting with My Family is an uplifting, funny, and deeply moving testament to family devotion and triumph against the odds.
